The municipal government of the City shall consist of a City Council composed of a Mayor and four Councilmembers. The Mayor and Councilmembers shall be elected from the City at large. The City of Terrell Hills conducts their general election to elect governing body members annually in May. The Mayor and Councilmembers Places 1 and 2 are elected in May of each even calendar year. Councilmembers for Places 3 and 4 are elected by election in May of each odd calendar year. A candidate may not run for more than one elected position of the City and terms are for two years.

On February 8, 2021, the City of Terrell Hills called for the general election, Ordinance #1466, which will be electing  members for Place 3 and Place 4 of the governing body. The Candidates for Place 3 are Kristyl Smith and Emmy Rogers Ballantyne. Due to an unopposed candidate for Place 4, the incumbent, Peter Mako will continue to serve the community of Terrell Hills.

Early voting is April 19 – 27th.  Polling sites are closed on Sunday, April 25th.  The nearby early voting sites for Terrell Hills residents are:  Lion’s Field, located at 2809 Broadway and Tobin Library @ Oakwell, located at 4134 Harry Wurzbach.  Bexar County is designated as a voter center model.  Additional voting sites are available at www.bexar.org/elections. You may vote at any Bexar County designated voting polling site on Election Day, May 1st.

Terrell Hills City Hall is an Election Day polling site on Saturday, May 1, 2021; voters will be able to vote beginning at 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. practicing COVID-19 precautions.

Candidate Qualifications to serve on Council

  • 18 years of age or older
  • United States citizen
  • A qualified voter on the date of election.
  • Resided in the City for a year preceding the election.
  • Has not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court.
  • Has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the candidate has not been pardoned or otherwise.
  • Must satisfy any other eligibility requirements by law.

Important Dates for May 1, 2021 General Election

  • First day to apply is January 13, 2021
  • City Hall is closed January 18, 2021 in observance of Martin Luther King Holiday
  • Last day to apply is February 12, 2021
  • Last day to withdraw name from ballot must be received by 5:00 P.M. on February 20,2021.
  • Election Day is Saturday, May 1, 2021 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
