The municipal government of the City shall consist of a City Council composed of a Mayor and four Councilmembers. The Mayor and Councilmembers shall be elected from the City at large. The City of Terrell Hills conducts their general election to elect governing body members annually in May. The Mayor and Councilmembers Places 1 and 2 are elected in May of each even calendar year. Councilmembers for Places 3 and 4 are elected by election in May of each odd calendar year. A candidate may not run for more than one elected position of the City and terms are for two years.

Candidate Qualifications to serve on Council

  • 18 years of age or older
  • United States citizen
  • A qualified voter on the date of election.
  • Resided in the City for a year preceding the election.
  • Has not been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court.
  • Has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the candidate has not been pardoned or otherwise.
  • Must satisfy any other eligibility requirements by law.

Important Dates for May 1, 2027 General Election Internet Posting

  • First day to file for a place on the General Election Ballot is January 13, 2027.
  • Last day to file for a place on the General Election Ballot is February 12, 2027, candidate packet must be received by 5pm.
  • Election Day is Saturday, May 1, 2027 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
