Home -- Recycle

Special Notice

The recent decline in the commodity markets has had a major impact on the profitability of recycling.

Instead of the City receiving a payment for the recycled material we sent to the recycler, we recently had to start paying the company that sorts and sales the material.

We have been assured that the material is being stockpiled until the markets improve and demand catches up with current supplies. None of the recycled material is being dumped into a landfill.

Even with this setback, the City realized a small savings by not sending the material to a landfill. Combine this with the long term benefits of reducing future landfill costs, it still makes the program a viable option. Be assured, we are closely monitoring these developments and are exploring options to keep our recycling program in operation.

We will post updates as conditions change.

Please remember there is no recycling during weeks that contain a City Holiday.
