Fire Prevention Program
Welcome to the Terrell Hills Fire Department's Fire Prevention Program.
We believe one of the most efficient ways to fight a fire is to never allow
it to start. This philosophy and our resident's willingness to let us in their
homes has led us in the direction we are in now.
Our primary prevention activity are Free in Home Fire Safety Surveys.
We typically provide this service to the resident's on Thursdays from
9:00 am to around 5:00 pm. While providing this service, you will often
see the fire apparatus parked on the street and our Firefighters walking
door to door.
Fire Prevention Survey
When we make contact with the resident, we inform them that each
survey takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes. We walk through the home,
accompanied by the resident and look for any fire safety hazards that
the resident may not think about during their daily lives.
In the event any hazards are found the prevention crew will only
recommend that the hazard or habit be changed. We also check smoke
detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers during the
survey. While doing so if we find the need to replace or initially place a
detector the Department donates a smoke detector with the assistance
of Lowe's Hardware Store.
